Dragon

I didn’t get the chance to completely finish my dragon. I ran out of time and was unable to add the details like the smaller horns on his face and the frills down his back. I also got lost on how to make his toes.

But here are the “final” screenshots

Progress

I didn’t get very far from the last post, but this weekend will allow more freedom to work on my dragon. However, I am not sure if I will be able to texture it. I just really want to make it look as awesome as possible, and possibly save it for a future project.

Here are the screenshots

Progress 3

I tried to get modo to work for me again, it looks like things would look much more organic, but I failed again in the short time that I have to try to learn it.

So Istarted with maya, its actually fun and I know the program but I don’t have alot of detail in it, so it looks kinda funny. This is just the base and I am a little unsure on how to model the legs. I’m sure if I play around a little I’ll figure it out, but suggestions are very welcome.

Here are the screenshots:

Progress

Sorry, I am still tring to figure out modo, so I really don’t have anything to show. The system is very different from maya, I might have to actually read the help menu. I think that I might just model in maya since thats what I’m used to. Either way I will really try to have at least SOMETHING modeled by the weekend and post it.

Progress

I have started to model my dragon. Though its more like I am exploring modo a bit more, so there is not much done. But for the future, how should I show/post my progress? Do I just write about it??

Judge

My three questions were:

Wings  or no wings?

Pretty much everyone said that wings were way more dramatic and added weight to my dragon. I was also told that it would allow for more options on posing the wings. Plus the slimmer, wingless creature was said to look more like a greyhound.

What kind of feet would look best?

Most thought that the feet I had on it were fine, but I did get a suggestion to change the front feet. Make them more different from the back. And pull the wings out in the front view.

Suggestions on design?

I got one that said to put a barb on the tail, or something similar to the horns on the head, nose, and feet. And make the dragon a little shorter.

FRONT VIEW

I will change the tail and the height. I might try a new style for the front feet as well. And for the final I hope to have a dragon modeled, so the weeks leading up to it will be me on a computer modeling the dragon and if I finish early I think I might try texturing.

Designer 2

Here are some other possible dragons, a dragon body with and without wings, and a couple of different paws/feet.

Designer

I’ve decided to make an attempt at modeling in 3d using maya.

Here are some design ideas and some notes on the possible proccess

I want to model an entire dragon but my skill set is nowhere near that good, so I will stick with just the head and neck. I will start trying a couple of methods and see what works and what will be an epic fail. Not sure if I can get anywhere near texturing, my goal is to just make a passable dragon head.

I think would like to try to make a bust of Gromit in 3d

More inspiration

fav video games

I am always impressed with how realistic the cg for video games look, well today at least. I’ve always wanted to be able to do something like that, but since I have never used a 3d program until very recently it may be a distant dream.

Stories are also a very large source of inspiration for me. I love books, manga, games, and anime. Most have amazing stories but not so great illustrations. Books: Vampirates, Acheron, Host, City of Ashes, and many more. Manga: Skip Beat, Bleach, and XBlade. Some manga have realy interesting camera angles and even characters themselves and their personalities are amazing.

Animation and Anime

Miyazaki has amazing stories and pays amazingly close attention to detail. He studies behavior and incorporates in his movies. I aspire to be able to see the little things and add it to my work to make it feel more real.
